The Vision Pro, introduced in June 2023 after years of circulating development rumours, aims to redefine the mixed reality landscape. Despite its innovative features, Apple has reportedly slashed its production forecasts, revising the initial estimate from one million units to 400,000 for the year 2024.

Apple has shared additional insights into the device, revealing that it will offer 256GB of storage. Noteworthy is the integration of eye-tracking technology within the headset, designed to function seamlessly with a single dominant eye, addressing the needs of individuals with limited use of both eyes.

In an attempt to set the Vision Pro apart from competing devices, Apple has advised developers to brand their apps under the term “spatial computing,” discouraging the use of traditional labels such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), extended reality (XR), or mixed reality (MR).

Accompanying the announcement, Apple launched an online trailer featuring characters from films sporting the Vision Pro, a reminiscent strategy echoing the excitement generated during the iPhone launch in 2007. Boeing also conveyed regret for the disruption caused to customers and passengers due to these circumstances.

The recent incident on Alaska Airlines, fortunately, did not result in severe injuries. However, the forceful panel blowout during the flight caused headrests and seat backs to be forcibly ripped from the cabin. Additionally, the cockpit door was violently flung open. Federal safety investigations revealed that if this incident occurred at cruising altitude, when passengers and crews typically move around the cabin, the consequences could have been much graver.

National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Chair Jennifer Homendy reported that the missing part from the incident was later discovered in a backyard in Portland. A local school teacher named Bob found the part and promptly contacted the NTSB. The hackers, upon infiltrating these accounts, were able to access a considerable number of files containing profile information about other users’ ancestry. This breach included names, relationships, birth years, locations, pictures, addresses, and the percentage of shared DNA with relatives. The compromise extended to family tree profile information for approximately 1.4 million users engaged in the DNA relatives feature, revealing display names and relationship labels.

While one set of data was advertised on a hacking forum, specifically targeting individuals with Jewish ancestry, there is currently no evidence of any datasets being sold or utilized by criminals.
